Increasing Resilience to Climate Change and Natural Hazards Project
The Republic of Vanuatu is being provided with grants from the Global Environment Facility, the European Union and the GFDRR to implement a project to increase the resilience of communities in Vanuatu to the impacts of climate variability and change and national hazards on food and water security as well as livelihoods.
The Project Management Advisor will be contracted for three years from January 2013 to assist and mentor the Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction Project Management Unit (PMU) and build capacity of the PMU and sectoral implementing agencies. The position will be based in the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-hazard Department (VMGD). Remuneration will be commensurate with skills and experience.
Key tasks and responsibilities include:
- Strengthen the core function and service provision of the PMU to coordinate implementation of the Project
- Oversee and guide PMU staff and implementing agency staff on all matters pertaining to the implementation and smooth operation of the Project
- Identify opportunities for coordination and collaboration
- Support preparation of the Annual Work Plan and Budget, Procurement Plan, M&E system, Reports and Public Relations initiative
- Provide training and capacity building to coordinating and implementing agencies
Required qualifications:
- Post-graduate degree in a development related discipline
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior project management position in developing countries, including experience in the Pacific Region;
- Technical experience in an area of focus for the project;
- Experience with management of donor financed programs;
- Fluent Bislama and experiential knowledge of development issues in Vanuatu preferred
