Forestry and protected area management Project (FPAM) will had its country inception next week in Tagabe to discuses some areas in relation to the protection of forest resources. This is vital because Forests provide us with multiple benefits to the public, such as protection of water resources, timber and non-timber forest products, protection from soil erosion and a high quality environment that contributes to the tourism and agriculture sectors. However, forestry and conservation in Vanuatu, like elsewhere in the Pacific, is challenging due to some weaknesses in laws, policies and institutions and the complexity of arrangements for land ownership and natural resource management. With this project to be implemented it will definitely contribute in revise of some laws in relation to forest and environment and also enable indigenous Vanuatu to value the forest resources more because of the biodiversity. Above all with climate change affecting us at the moment we need to protect our forest because of its contribution in the sustaining of our livelihood.
