GEF Project Development Specialist

The GEF Project Development Specialist will lead two GEF project development processes to a successful conclusion: one in Solomon Islands and one in Vanuatu. The consultant’s main task will be to design and generate quality CEO documents and full sized project (FSP) documents for both Solomon Islands and Vanuatu that meet the expectations of Government, FAO, the GEF Secretariat, and key co-funders. The GEF CEO Endorsement Request and the FAO Project Document are the final products of the project preparatory phase. The consultant will be the team leader for a team of national and international experts tasked with generating technical information and analysis (inputs) necessary to complete a GEF CEO Endorsement Request and FAO Project Document for projects in both countries. To do this successfully, the consultant will guide the overall project preparation process, including data collection and analysis by project development team members in both countries, and will take overall responsibility for production of the project documents required by FAO and the GEF. Required competencies are as follows: Academic qualifications: 1. University degree in forestry, natural resources management, environment or natural resource economics, or related discipline. Technical competencies and experience requirements 1. At least 2-3 years of work experience related to the above mentioned subjects 2. Fluency in English language and strong writing skills 3. Previous experience writing successful funding/grant/project proposals 4. High level of competency with computer spreadsheets, preferably with experience of drafting project budgets 5. Previous knowledge/experience/familiarity with the GEF 6. Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines Remuneration will depend on skills and experience, but is likely to be about USD 7,000/month, plus return air ticket to Fiji and medical benefits.
